The Walnut Suite, The Plaza Hotel. Lunch will be provided.

Perfect for anyone who wants to know more about LGBTQ+ identities, this session is informed by over a decade of ShoutOut’s on-the-ground experience in schools and youth services and is suitable for a wide range of ages and backgrounds.

In this workshop Ruadhán Ó Críodáin (he/him) looks at the most up-to-date terminology used by the LGBTQ+ community, so participants can leave feeling fluent in respectful and supportive language in an ever-changing context.

We provide a safe space for people to ask questions and troubleshoot scenarios in our “ask anything” Q&A.

Topics covered include:

  • Introduction to ShoutOut and our mission promoting LGBTQ+ inclusion through education.
  • A detailed overview of LGBTQ+ terminology and identities, including gender and sexual orientation.
  • Further explanation on transgender, non-binary, and intersex identities and the most up-to-date language.
  • Pronouns and gendered language: why they matter and how to use them respectfully.
  • Simple steps we can take to create more inclusive environments in our community.
  • Ask anything Q&A

This work is kindly supported by The Heart of the Community Fund from the Ireland Funds.

About ShoutOut

ShoutOut is a registered charity harnessing education to promote inclusion and equality for the LGBTQ+ community.

We empower LGBTQ+ people and work to build networks of informed allies who will work alongside the LGBTQ+ community, to ensure their rights are protected. We do this by developing educational programmes on LGBTQ+ issues and delivering them to school students, teachers, youth workers, parents and guardians, higher education institutions, community groups, sports organisations and workplaces.

Since 2012 we've been delivering workshops in secondary schools across the island of Ireland which tackle LGBTQ+ bullying, and we've completed over 2,250 student workshops. That means we’ve spoken directly to over 67,500 students! We use our on-the-ground experience of speaking with young people to inform all of our training modules.
